Hello! My name is Ariane. It’s nice to meet you.
I am a writer and editor who has called the United States, England, and Japan home for a time, though I’m now based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I hold a master’s degree in English and studied abroad at the University of Oxford with a focus on literary craft. As a freelance editor, I enjoy helping others bring their stories and ideas to life, too.
I have worked as a writing tutor for many years and taught courses in composition and rhetoric for college students. As an editor, I’ve had the privilege of working on a wide variety of projects, like one of NYT bestselling author Dave Asprey’s books, a text for Biola University, and a few projects for Leafwood Publishers—as well as dozens of independent clients with picture books, middle grade and young adult novels, adult sci-fi/fantasy novels, memoir, and self-help manuscripts. I now work as a Story Mechanic at my own editorial firm, Ground Crew Editorial.
If it isn’t obvious already, words in all their forms are my passion! I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). I am frequent presenter for SCBWI Rocky Mountain Chapter Connect events, and I was also a faculty speaker for the RMC’s Letters & Lines conference in 2022. I currently serve as an editorial assistant for Japan Harvest, the official magazine published by the Japan Evangelical Association for their members.
The stories that I find in the world keep me traveling and keep my eyes open. My work has been published in several places, including the Garbanzo Literary Journal and Coldnoon: International Journal of Travel Writing and Traveling Cultures. A selection of my online writing clips can be read here. I’ve received awards in short story and poetry from a local writers’ guild and was nominated for the Golden Pen Award at the RMC SCBWI 2020 fall conference.
Currently, I’m pursuing publication for my YA novels, The Words We Know and Love (contemporary fantasy) and Still Dreaming (sci-fi/fantasy blend).
Aside from writing and editing, I keep busy enough as a costume seamstress, baker, cake decorator, scrapbooker, artist, and paper enthusiast. You can read about some of those adventures on my blog.
